1994-95 Chechnya

I have chosen the First Chechen War as a new project for a couple reasons.
a) seeing all the great work on 20mm Chechens by Mark at Post-War Miniatures forum has inspired me. (Trust me, it is worth signing up to see them, as well as Al's MASSIVE Russian tank collection!)
b) I like the look of the first war Russians. A colorful mix of TTsKO, VSR, and blue and tan jumpsuits.
c) it's just something new for me to try and buy!

I'm going to be working with 20mm metals for the first time in my life. These are from Elhiem's Cold War series, more specifically the body armor Soviets, and Afghanistan campaign. I think they look great.

I have not decided exactly what to do for the majority of the Chechens. I will convert one way or another, and have done so to two guys already (see the above forum.) I am very happy with the result so far.

I  have a couple distinct goals for this project:
a) a platoon of Russians in a mix of camo
b) several teams of Chechens: one tank hunter, one sniper, and two assault teams totaling about twenty guys.
c) a Chechen mountain rural village. City terrain is way too expensive and or time consuming for me to get looking correct.

Here are some of the Elhiem sets I ordered. I bought enough for a full strength platoon.

  1. yes I love those Elhiem soviets also body armour looks so cool and the helmets are a nice style in my opinion.

bugger I seem to have forgotten my password for post war miniature, but once thats sorted out I'll be right on there... that is if I had an account which I think I did, though its hard to tell as I cannot access the members list without having a log in.

    1. Thanks Gowan. These do look excellent! I can't wait to get my hands on them. I especially like that they still retain more realistic proportions than most lead figures. I'll see though.

about the forum, you may have to re-register. Mark deleted a few of the inactive accounts after a few weeks.

  2. A great start to a project. I'm big on Chechnya too. Tomorrow night's game is going to be Chechnya themed as it happens. Have you seen the new Under Fire Miniatures Chechen range btw?

    Cheers,

    Pete.

    1. I have seen some photos and they look great! Its just that they are sort of expensive, and the Chechen range is somewhat limited still that I haven't seriously considered them yet. I hope to see some photos of your game!

  3. I'm painting some up now- they are lovely figure. If I've got anything to do with it (Bill who runs UFM is a very good friend of mine) there will be some more packs coming out soon, well as soon as I can bully him... :) I want some more for myself if nothing else.

    Cheers,

    Pete.

    1. Ohh, good! Do pressure him please! Their Russian range looks excellent, so if the Chechen range expands like they have, I would probably buy some. I know that Mark (MaskC from the forum) would! They're some big UFM fans over there.
