2008 South Ossetia War and Other Projects

2008 saw a rarity of the 21st century, the meeting of professional military forces on the field of battle in a developed country. You can read the politics of it on this wikipedia entry.

I started a test figure of the Georgian army several months (?) ago. I was kind of pleased with the result so I went ahead with a few more last night.

Useful sites for the Georgian military.
Army recognition: Georgia
Wikipedia: Military of Georgia
Wikipedia: Ground forces: equipment, organization.
Wikipedia: Georgian Special Forces
Camopedia: Georgia

These guys are the bodies of Caesar's US in desert uniform. I chose them because of my massive surplus of the set and because they have the M4 carbine, which according to my sources is used by the Georgian army.

I swapped heads with the excellent Italeri WW2 Soviets. Because the plastic of both these sets is rather hard, I had to change my Conversion method by adding the staple to the very hard head, and boring a small hole in the neck of the Caesar figure and inserting the spike.

According to camopedia, the main camo used by Georgia is the USMC green MARPAT.

I had to guess at the composition of the unit, I may convert one of the figures here to a LMG later.

The test figure, I added the back pack form the Dragon Bradley kit, just because. Note the Georgian flag patch.

Other things on the bench.
I wanted a couple sniper teams to go with my ultra modern US armies. Enough said....

The Caesar sniper with Pegasus Vietnam observer, he will probably be done on UCP or desert MARPAT

Hmm, he would look good in Multcam. I used the M14 leftover from an Iraqi conversion I did with a Vietnam body, wow I'm complex and frugal!
Have a great weekend ;-D

    1. Thanks Gowan, it was a pretty fun, quick project once I got started with it. The good thing is that I can use the Russians I already have painted to fight them.

    1. Thanks so much for pointing me to this! The day by day accounts will be great for making scenarios when I get enough figures and all. The equiptment guides look good too. Thanks again, and welcome to my blog!

  5. Happy to help. There is this book to but I wouldn't recommend it as much (not that it is badly written or anything like that just it covers more political than military matters).
