I plan to wargame early cold war-hot scenarios now.
I chose the '50s so I could use early tanks, and still use some WW2 guys for the Americans.
Here are some test figures from the Zvezda WW2 set with AKs from some Orion spare figures. Enjoy :D
Love the conversions. You must post a tutorial on how you got the AKs into the Sov hands so seamlessly! I have messed around with conversions before - especially with my ARVN South Vietnamese and it never turned out right.
I may, now that you ask! I hardly think mine are perfect! I used epoxy on these for the first time. With Caesar figures I can use CA without a problem, but the Zvezada guys wouldn't get a very strong bond. Just trim the gun away from the Zvezda, trim the hands off the AK, and use plenty of 5-min epoxy! I will take some WIP photos from my next batch if that would help.
That will help very much, Ben. Looking forward to it. I want to use my ROK Koreans and Korean War US IMEX as South Vietnamese Marines with US MACV guys in tiger stripe camo. I bought the MRC ARVN M113s and they are very nice models but some of them will need CAR-15s, M16s, and M79 grenade launchers.
That sounds interesting. I had considered doing a S. Vietnamese unit in the past. Maybe I'll do that if I ever decide to finish the US Army Coy I started a while back! Since you are going to convert, I suggest the Pegasus set for weapons. Almost all of the weapon arms are separate, including the M79s, shotguns, M60s, and M16s. That should be a huge help for converting.
Thank you Melvin, I love how the faces look when I finished. Zvezda does really good sculpting. I'm now just waiting for my order of figures to arrive, after that I will post some more progress!
Really nice looking figures Ben! Nice project!

Thank you sir! I'm excited about the rest of the project as well!
Deletethis is going to be an interesting project... the 50's were an interesting time full of many new technologies and new ideas.
ReplyDeleteThanks Gowan! I agree, I picked the early war because of the cool blend of WW2 equipment, and the new things that were beginning to evolve.
DeleteGreat work Ben, the Red conversions look very nice.
ReplyDeleteThank you Paul. I actually put in my order for more Soviets and some of the great Revell WW2 GIs, so I should have some more to show soon!

Thank you!
DeleteIt is very interesting. I guess I do need a background story before I start gaming.
