Old Brushes Never Die...

...they just get replaced.
Some of my old brushes.

And some of my new ones. This is a test figure using my new ones as well as my first Vallejo paints.
P.S. I know the buttons should be silver ;)
On another note I will be starting a new Napoleonic project very soon. Stay tuned and happy Friday.

Major purchases and places I've been

It's been a while since my last purchase, so I went overboard.
I just got back from the trip to "Fall-In!" in Lancaster and a stroll around Gettysburg.
The vendor hall at the show
Luckily between the two different places I filled out most of my WW2 Battalion plans with most of what I "need" including all the PzIVs, T-34s, BT-70s, KV-1s and PzIIIs, unfortunately I could not find the needed PzIIs. I also found all I need for my Russian and a nice beginning for my German infantry battalions.

Also purchased were some bonuses such as enough Revell and Caesar modern Brits for a platoon, some other moderns including the much sought after Caesar SAS set.

An unexpected purchase came in the form of GHQ miniatures. The second day of Fall-In, I was browsing the rows of tables and came upon the "combat command" boxes, I bought the mujaheddin and US Urban task force or something like that.

I plan to post pics of all these goodies later on.

These are all pictures from the wonders of Gettysburg!
Have a great week!

My workspace

Here is my workspace.
My desk

My small collection of rules, and part of my book collection

My tool drawer

My ten soldier boxes

One of my 30 shelves

most of my soldier boxes

All of my paints. I take pride in not owning a bottle of every color of paint. I have not used the craft paint for a long time, don't know why I still keep them

My wargame "table."

Toy soldiers want to play outside.

It began to snow yesterday for the first "major" time this season. I figured it would be a good time to set them up and take some photographs.

New era, new order.

I placed an order with The Toy Soldier Company today. The new era is Russian Revolution. I ordered Hat Napoleonic Militia, Zvezda WWI Russian Infantry, and Red Box Boxer Rebellion Civilians. I hope everything turns out well. I also have some Hat Cossacks to paint as well. Has anyone else done this era?

Things To Do.

I consolidated some of my figures I had laying about in boxes and organizing the into units. Here is a partial list of some of the guys I found.
Napoleonic
  • Austrian Brigade. This unit is comprised of 90 figures all made by Hat. I am not currently working on an Austrian army, I do have several different sets of them. These guys are a mix of Hat Grenzer and Line infantry The Grenzers are newer and very well sculpted. The other guys are a bit older, they're rather flat but should paint up nicely.
  • French Rgt. This is a unit of Hat Young Guard and Hat Fusiliers. Both of these sets are not quite up to modern standards but are still fairly well made.
  • Four Prussian Rgts of 120 figures altogether. These are made up of Hat, Revell, and Waterloo 1815. The new Hat guys are extremely perfect. Unfortunately, they are $9.00 instead of the usual $7.50. I believe it will be a disaster if Hat ever raise the price of the older figures from that in the future.
  • One Russian brigade of 90 figures. These are Zvezda and Strelets*R grenadiers with the tall plume trimmed. The Strelets*R figures are very clunky and chunky. Not particularly my desired style but mixing a few in should not hurt anything. The Zvezda set is a masterpiece. No more needs to be said.
  • About 20 various "resisters." Orion, Mars, maybe some others.
  • Two Rgts of 42 Prussian Hussars, by Waterloo 1815. They are beautiful figures, I just can't bring myself to paint 42 horse saddles.

New Rules!

I just finished writing a new set of WWII rules yesterday, just in time to test them on some freshly painted Germans and U.S Rangers. There was a subconscious revelation to me as I watched parts of Rhineland and parts of Band of Brothers, and read up on small unit tactics, that firing a rifle was not as much about hitting and destroying a target as it was pinning the target down so others could advance. My new rules reflect this pretty nicely by allowing infantry to lie in cover and receive great benefits as protection from fire, they just can't return fire or move. Well, you may say, this is nothing new, same old, same old. WELL I respond to that by saying it's new to me.                                    The game I tested it on went pretty badly for the brave Rangers, the fire support worked perfectly, MG teams firing from cover, thus pinning two German squads. It wasn't enough though, the Rangers came under fire form other units and were terribly mangled. Perhaps I will have pictures up later.

Hello, this is my first post. I am attempting to do this properly so ignore it in the future.
