Never Met a Marine I Liked!

"Never met a Marine I liked," are not my words so don't blame me! After making a platoon of USMC in Woodland MARPAT, I decided to make one in the desert variant for my Afghanistan and later Iraq games. Well here they are.
Two of the figures, SAW and grenadier

Some riflemen, perhaps squad or team leaders

The platoon's Javelin team

The two M-60 gunners from the support team

Platoon command

This whole group is only one squad! Quite odd looking after making so many US Army squads with only 2/3 the number shown here

The whole platoon

Support. I just last night noticed I did not include the squad leader, sigh....

Happy Waterloo anniversary too. Unfortunately I don't know who to cheer in that battle. The French were our allies yet the British are so likeable!

  1. Nice painting, but may I suggest just a thin dark wash to bring out the details even more?
Love that you do the small flags and markings, I need to start doing them myself!

    1. Thanks Jonathan, I actually enjoy the flag part. I think a dark wash would be good especially on these Caesar figures, I may have to give it a try at some point.

  2. Great painted figures. This reminds me on the one I've painted some time ago. The one with the wrong cammo pattern! ;-)

I agree with Jonathan about the wash. I used Gryphonne Sepia wash from Games Workshop on mine. It made him look much better.

    1. That pose is actually hiding in there Peter! It just shows you the variety that can be achieved with modern camo, this is just one of at least half a dozen camo schemes that would look ok. When will we see the conclusion of that project anyway???

    2. Hey Ben,

I'm painting some Esci Modern Americans now, in that same cammo pattern. About the project, I just posted part one on my blog ;-)

  3. Hi Ben, I am with the other fella's, give them a light brown wash just to add some folds in clothing etc. Sepia sounds about right.

Do you use a black primer coat? This I find helps in the definition of the figures

They are looking very good all the same.

    Cheers Paul

  4. Thanks Paul. I almost never undercoat my wargames figures, when I undercoat a special painted figure I always use white; thanks for the tip I will have to try that sometime.
